Assessment of the Impact of Load Shedding on the Economy and Future Investment Dynamics of the City of Johannesburg

Urban-Econ, as part of the team with Ernst and Young, was responsible for the development of an economic model to determine the direct and multiplier effects of electricity outages on the state of the City’s economy under various scenarios of planned and un-planned electricity outages.  Included analysis of the potential implications on the growth and sustainability of the economy, and the determination of industries most sensitive to outages, in order to inform future decision-making by the City of Johannesburg with respect to mitigation measures and load shedding scheduling.
